We always like to support charities and introduce the children to understanding how they can help others. We try to ensure that there is only one event per half term however the academic year calendar can impede this.
In previous years we have supported Children in Need in November, Christmas Jumper Day in December, Sports Relief/comic Relief in the Spring Term and sometimes we have a charity that is closer to home to support. In the past children have asked us to support an event which is close to their heart because of personal reasons. We always try to accommodate these as best we can. This year we are excited to support:
Jean for Genes Day
This half term we will support Jeans for Genes Day on Friday 29th September. This is a week after the national event to enable the Reception children to be in full-time and settled before making a temporary change to the uniform for the day. We are inviting all children to wear jeans for the day in return for a small donation (we would suggest £1). We have chosen this charity because one of our Year 1 children wrote us a heartfelt letter explaining how a genetic disorder she has impacts on her life and that of her older brother in Year 6. The staff wholeheartedly want to support this charity as it has strong connections with genetic disorders such as Bardet-Biedl syndrome. We look forward to seeing some denim!
Children in Need Spotacular
Next half term on Friday 17th November, the school will support the Children in Need event. This year we hope to raise more money than before and will be sharing more information nearer the event on how your child can get involved.
Christmas Jumper Day
All the Staff love to wear their Christmas Jumpers to school and this year we have chosen to wear them on Monday 18th December. If any child in school would like to also wear their jumper we would love to see them and kindly accept their donation to our fund for Save the Children.
